Hillbilly Elegy is another Ron Howard letdown

depsite it's negative reception i was hoping i would enjoy the film more than most people but unfortuantely Hillbilly Elegy ends up being another weak point in Ron Howard's filmography
the acting is the best aspect about it especially Amy Adams and Glenn Close, it is well-shot, has an few decent moments and the storytelling has potential
but it's how the storytelling is handled and the structure is what seriously hurts the movie as it jumbles and bumbles through three different timelines and it surprisingly doesn't give you much connection or meaning or even development to these characters and some of the moments that happen just feels too nonsensical and over-the-top in the worst way and you don't feel connection to the characters even the main guy who just feels kinda boring (depsite his great performance) i get the messages it was going for with family but it just feels way too preachy and shove down your throats and it loses meaning
the things i liked about it do prevent this movie from being bad but Hillbilly Elegy is disappointing considering it had soo much potential to be an real and emotional journey but ended up being an slopply unfocused mess
Rating: THE MEH GIFT 40-C
